Isys

On her 19th birthday, Isys Aeyin, of the Aeyin royal family and heir apparent to the throne of the Zjelin star system, lost her father.

King Aeyin was a man of peace and harmony. Even as the Chrysalis Wars raged for over a millennium throughout the Paraden galaxy, as the brutal march of the Nebulys-thirsty armies of the Gevek system edged closer to Zjelin, King Aeyin remained steadfast in his beliefs and his policy of peace, an ideal he imbued in the education of his daughter Isys, althewhile training her in the arts of diplomacy, magicks, and ironically, war. In order to ensure the eradication of war, King Aeyin reasoned, one must first be educated and understand the ways of warfare and martial art; no matter how righteous an individual might be.

Isys proved to be a natural in all aspects of her education. She quickly mastered the nuances of public opinion and leadership, gained the will necessary to control the mystic arts, and as expected, devised military strategies and tactics that were formerly unseen or heard of, all under the watchful and caring eyes of her father. Oftentimes, Isys’ rigorous studies were earmarked with quiet, introspective evenings on her terrace overlooking the capital city of Zjelhes. Isys was often reminded of something her father said to her, years ago during a simpler time, as father and daughter gazed into the majestic calm of night:

“Look upon the beauty of our capital, Isys, and count the lights as far as you can see. Imagine each light represents one person, each with their own hopes and insecurities, aspirations and fears. Each person is a subtle yet profoundly important part of our kingdom. Without these people, without their hopes, their fears, we are nothing. Do you understand? This is why we must stay true to our beliefs.”

Isys, at the tender age of 5 and already a precocious child, had a rudimentary understanding that she was yet unable to express in words. When she was older and finally able to do so, however, King Aeyin was already tending to the fronts. The armies of Gevek, continuing to ignore appeal after appeal of peace from both King Aevin and the United Democratic Coalition of Free Systems, had finally delivered on their threat of breaching the borders the Zjelin star system, intent on destroying the free peoples of Zjelin and taking control of their Nebulys reserve. Zjelin and Gevek forces, however, maintained a stand-off due to the support King Aeyin was receiving from various factions and planetary governments. Isys continued her studies under supervision of her father’s most trusted advisors, while eagerly anticipating her father’s return from tending to the impending Gevekian invasion.

A glimmer of hope appeared in the form of Gevekian leaders agreeing to make an appearance at the UDCFS’s emergency wartime summit, appearing to agree, albeit reluctantly, to hear King Aeyin’s plans for a treaty of sorts. Isys offered compassionate skepticism to her father’s hopeful disposition, her studies in warfare having enlightened her to the art of deception and false premise. King Aeyin, however, offered Isys his reasons for maintaining such hope in the face of unforeseeable outcome: “Our message of peace is not about serving the purpose at hand, but an ideal that observes no boundaries and does understand the meaning of the word ‘fruitless’. In order for us to see our vision through, we must be prepared to do whatever is necessary. Sometimes, necessity dictates that we are willing to fall upon our own blade.” Now older and wiser since the last time her father spoke his words of wisdom, Isys could only sadly respect her father’s wishes. Watching the royal shuttle depart for the capital planet of Oergon, Isys silently prayed for her father’s safe return.

The telegraph Isys received two weeks later claimed it was an explosion of arcane origin that took the lives of King Aeyin and those loyal to him en route to the sixth and final conference on Oergon. As her eyes welled up with tears, Isys immediately put aside her emotions and dove into action. As Zjelin mandate dictated, Isys was now, at the tender age of 19, the ruler and protector of Zjelin and its people. Immediately taking swift action, Isys called an emergency meeting of the Zjelin commandants and political leaders, with the intent of consolidating her position and making known her plans for ending the Chrysalis Wars.

Gevek stood as the sole and most immediate oppressor within Zjelin’s ranks. King Aeyin, for all his pacifistic ideals, remained an influential figure in the ranks of the UDCFS; without Aeyin, Isys reasoned, Zjelin lost a good amount of support from the desperate and idealistic members of the Coalition. Many of Aeyin’s supporters would not eagerly draw a treaty with Zjelin now that Aeyin was gone; much less place the uncertainty of their fates within the palms of a 19 year-old girl. In order to ensure Zjelin’s survival, and of those still loyal to Zjelin, Gevek’s forces would have to be dealt with swiftly and efficiently.

In honor of her father’s memory, Isys swore before her followers and people that this battle with Gevek would be the first and last encounter that she would demonstrate her military prowess. It was never her intent to temporarily break from the values her father so instilled in her at a young age, she imparted to those who followed her King Aeyin’s policy of pacifism, but the circumstances breed the necessity for the oppressed to become warriors. Isys gestured towards the capital and recanted her father’s words spoken so many years ago to her followers, now able to express her fiery dedication in words: “This is why we must fight,” she said to her people. Peace was her ultimate goal, but for the sake of Zjelin, for the sake of the people and their futures, they would have to fight.

In between preparations for war and planning, Isys would always take a moment to remember her father in her meditation and recall his kindness and peaceful demeanor. Zjelin’s goodness was a manifestation of her father’s goodness; it was important that she not lose sight of that. Fighting back her emotions, Isys would end each of her meditations and prayers asking for her father’s blessings to see his task through, looking upon the lights in every house in Zjelhes.

On her 19th birthday, Isys Aeyin, of the royal Aeyin family and successor to the throne, made a promise to her father that she would not rest until her father’s vision was made a reality in a galaxy that still held, as her father and now Isys maintained, promise for a better future.辛苦老公了~亲,不管结果如何,至少我努力了。
